Like most people who pass through or who is vacationing in the Southeast, stopping in Gatlinburg Tennessee is on the to do list.  When you search the Internet for “things to do in Gatlinburg” you’ll find an assortment of things such as; take a peaceful stroll on the Riverwalk, a downhill run at Ober Gatlinburg, or an eye-popping walk in an underwater tunnel, and that’s just for starters. You can also enjoy class IV whitewater rafting, 600 miles of hiking trails, hundreds of miles of fishing streams and the majesty of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and last but definitely not least, golf.

Gatlinburg has the absolute best golfing in Tennessee, with its premier course, Gatlinburg Golf Course. In the early 1950’s, noted golf course architect William Langford designed this beautiful 18-hole course. In 1993 and again in 2007, it underwent major renovations by Bob Cupp & Associates of Atlanta. Today, the completely rebuilt greens and reworked fairways are better than ever. The course offers the well-seasoned golfer as well as the beginner a challenge on every hole, while its scenic beauty is unsurpassed. The course has been acclaimed as one of the most picturesque courses in America with breathtaking views of the Great Smoky Mountains. Located just five miles from downtown Gatlinburg, the course lies adjacent to Dollywood.

If you don’t make it far enough east to Gatlinburg, and pass through Nashville instead then checkout Gaylord Springs Golf Links. Carved from the banks of the Cumberland River, Gaylord Springs has earned its place among the nation’s best courses. Designed by former U.S. Open and PGA champion Larry Nelson, the Scottish links-style, par 72 layout offers 18 challenging holes bordered by scenic limestone bluffs. At the signature fourth hole, you’ll find the century-old springhouse from which the club derived its name

If Memphis is you destination or pit stop, then after chowing down Memphis’s world renowned BBQ on Beale Street, check out TPC at Southwind. Architect Ron Prichard designed this championship layout, with PGA Tour players Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller serving as consultants. The golf course features undulating zoysia fairways, champion Bermuda greens and numerous lakes, streams and ponds. Adding to the charm of the golf course is a silos and a windmill, remnants of the dairy farm that once was located on the site.

In January 2012, TPC Southwind was ranked No. 23 in Golf World magazine’s Exclusive PGA Tour Course Rankings. Also, the golf course has long been rated one of the more challenging courses on the PGA Tour schedule.
