Golf is booming in Mississippi and the influx of new courses means there is some great value to be had for your golf vacation. Several new Mississippi golf courses are being built, including designs by Tom Fazio and Arnold Palmer. If you find yourself in the Magnolia State, then check out these great courses.

Starting in Jackson, Colonial Country Club offers two distinct and challenging 18-hole golf courses: Jackson and Deerfield. The Deerfield is a par 72, 6900 yard, championship course that was carved from a natural woodland area in 1979 and
has hosted PGA Tour Qualifying Tournaments, Senior PGA Qualifying Tournaments, 7 State Opens,
3 State Amateurs, US open Qualifiers and US Senior Open Qualifiers.  The modern layout with
Bermuda fairways, menacing bunkers and strategic water holes only enhance the championship qualities. The real challenge on this course comes from the greens that were replaced in 2000 with Mini Verdi, the #1 rated super dwarf Bermuda in the country. With the larger, undulated greens, putting becomes a test for even the scratch players amongst us.

Looking north on the Tennessee boarder in Olive Branch, check out Cherokee Valley Golf Club. Nestled among gently rolling hills, this course extends a challenging game to golfers of all skill levels. With eleven lakes and fifty-four bunkers it may seem a bit intimidating, but its wide fairways and clean roughs are very forgiving. The 18-hole par 72 course ranges from 6751 yards at the rear tees to 4422 at the forward tees. A state-of-the-art practice facility includes a three-tiered driving range, 2 putting greens and a chipping green. Cherokee Valley Has hosted the Mid-South Cup Matches, the National Lefthanded Golfer’s Association tournament and the Mississippi High School 5A State Championship. Cherokee Valley hosts the FedEx St. Jude Monday qualifier and Saturday Series for touring pros that don’t make the cut.

Finishing all the way south down on the Gulf of Mexico just a few miles from Biloxi sits the small town of Pass Christian. In this small town you’ll find a very nice golf club know as The Oaks Golf Club. The 18-hole “Oaks” course features 6,885 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.5 and it has a slope rating of 131 on Bermuda grass.  Designed by Stephen Caplinger and Chris Cole, the Oaks golf course opened in 2006. But I haven’t told you the best part, the Oaks Golf Club recently announced a new partnership with Hooters restaurant of Gulfport that provides “Hooters Girls” as staff for The Oaks beverage carts. Clad in their traditional Hooters Girl uniforms, these new beverage cart staff members provide refreshments and snacks.
