Geauxing Golfing in Louisiana?

At least once a year I make a trip down to New Orleans for a long weekend. Upon my arrival, I usually head over to the French Quarter to let myself unwind with my friends. In our younger days we would participate in the festivities held on Bourbon Street for the whole weekend, but now we all have become a little bit more wise and like to take in the outstanding golfing that Louisiana has to offer.

One of my favorite courses to visit is Lakewood Golf Club. After hosting twenty six New Orleans Opens and turning 50 years old, Lakewood recently had a multimillion-dollar renovation adding new challenging fairways, tees and greens making it one of the most exciting courses to play. The course is nestled among beautiful Louisiana Cypress and Oak tress, and is one of the South’s premier golf destinations.

If you were not born on the Bayou or are just not into the New Orleans thing, then Lake Charles might be more your kind of place. In keeping with Cajun tradition, a friendly atmosphere surrounds the challenging golf found on Calcasieu Parish’s golf courses. Gray Plantation was ranked on Golf Digest’s list of “Top 100 Public Golf Courses” and Texas Golfer has designated Contraband Bayou Golf Club at L’Auberge du Lac as the “Best Course” and “Best Secret”.
