If you are golfing in Connecticut then you are probably aware that the state is not short of an assortment of courses. Whether you want to go for a short 9 or planning a 36-hole weekend, Connecticut has it to offer. Another great feature about golfing in Connecticut is that you are not far from other great courses in its surrounding states.

Located only thirty minutes away from Bridgeport in Rye, New York is Westchester Country Club, home of many championships tournaments played by all the great golfers. Westchester offers two challenging courses, the South Course, and the West Course. The South Course, renovated in 2000 by Ken Dye measures 6,566 yards from the blue tees and has one of the best sets of Par 3′s of any course in the Metropolitan area.  The recent renovations add two new greens, dramatic bunker upgrades, and 500 yards in length. The South Course retains similar styling and care as its West Course big brother and offers an experience that appeals to a broad range of golfers.

As being considered one of the best golf courses in the United States, the West Course is also one of the most familiar to golf fans as it is a long-standing site for PGA Tour events. Designed by Walter Travis, the West Course is hilly and heavily wooded, rolling through thick stands of pine, oak, and maple. The terrain is dotted with rocky outcroppings, some of which create blind spots which add to the complexity and difficulty of the course.

Heading back to the heart of Connecticut, in Hartford is the beautiful, Hartford Golf Club. The Hartford Golf Club has 27 holes of superbly conditioned parkland golf. The Hartford Golf Club believes that their course was created for the golfer who plays the game for enjoyment and adventure in mind. Founded in 1896, the course is a combination of Donald Ross and Devereaux Emmett design. Recently, the well-known architect Stephen Kay renovated all of the bunkers. It’s difficult to find another 27-hole golf course in the New England area that offers so many distinct layouts within a single course.

The Hartford Golf Club was host to the 1996 USGA Mid-Amateur Championship, and has hosted several Connecticut PGA and Connecticut State Golf Association Championships. The 60th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship was held here in July 2008, along with the 2009 CT Open.
