Wisconsin Golfing

A couple of years ago I attended a family members wedding in Wisconsin. It was located about an hour and a half outside of Green Bay in a city called Schofield. The wedding took place on a gorgeous golf course at Wausau Country Club. I didn’t get to play a round here but if you get the chance I’m certain it would be enjoyable.

Wausau Country Club is located in the shadows of Rib Mountain, and was established in 1899 and offers members and guests a superb private golf club experience. The par 71, 6,388-yard E.L. Packard-designed golf course features four sets of tee boxes, perfect to challenge players of all skill levels. The beautifully manicured fairways and greens are surrounded by Lake Wausau, with water coming into play on eight of the 18 majestic holes. A mix of northern Wisconsin pine and hardwood trees line the fairways and provide picturesque golf throughout spring, summer and fall.

After the weekend in Wausau, a couple of my cousins and I decided to drive down to Milwaukee for a day or two to partake in a few tours of our favorite companies and possible squeeze in a round. Well we accomplished both and I have to say that the golf might have been better.

We played at a wonderful municipal course called, Brown Deer. This course was originally designed by George Hansen and founded in 1929, and was partially redesigned by Andy North and Roger Packard. Brown Deer has hosted a PGA Tour and a USGA national championship. The challenging layout offers 60 sand-filled bunkers, tree-lined fairways, and water winding throughout the whole course.
